Batidos en Curaçao – en komplett guide

In Willemstad, Curaçao, Curacao.

Here and there in Willemstad- you’re going to find these little vans from which they make delicious fruitshakes called batidos : an antillian name for a fresh smoothie. The fruit of your choice, condensed milk and sugar makes these shakes the best thing drinkwise in all of Curaçao. The healthier option is to skip the condensed milk and sugar, which is almost as good. The best batido place is Anders Shakes in Otrabanda where they make it fast and are also generous with the quantity of each ingredient.. After trying your first you’ll always be craving more, but if you want to spice things up they also make some delicious local food like pastechi and a wonderfully large fresh fruit salad mix. The best fruit you can pick for your shake is hands down Soursopa fruit that tastes so miraculously good that people keep eating it even though they know it causes brain damage. An excerpt from wikipedia:

The compound annonacin contained in the seeds of soursop is a neurotoxin and it seems to be the cause of a neurodegenerative disease. The only group of people known to be affected live on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and the problem presumably occurs with the excessive consumption of plants containing annonacin.

Easter Weekend @ Erikssund Manor

In Sigtuna, Stockholm County, Sweden.

Douglas and Filip strolling.Saturday morning I remembered I forgot my camera at Emilia’s and since she was leaving for France while I was packing for Erikssund – none of us had time to get me the camera. With my trusty iPhone 4 I still managed to capture some of the beauty of the weekend at Filip’s brothers place.

Matjesill, eggs and even more eggs with fishegg on them.

As soon as we got there I got a quick tour of the first floor, the room where Filip and I would be staying. After some champagne, snaps and lunch we went for a walk by the lake where we saw two eagles that were impossible to catch on camera and petted the mares in the stables.

Snow and sunset
Come sunset we played pool on the upperfloor and I won. I feel it important to note that I won.

We ate in the oldest room in the house. The room had previously been King Eriks old dining room after a good hunt or something like that. The details of which royalty had sat there some fivehundred years ago were fuzzy. After a delicious salmon dinner we ended the night with a game filled with trivia about world history.

Steak dinner in Noord

There was this nice Argentine grill place that offered a 16 oz tenderloin so we kind of had to eat there after swimming all day at Eagle beach.

Solo soul food at the restaurant

Hellu. Next time at the restaurant, you should try the Bibimbap with entrecõte. It is the best food for an empty stomach.

Recovering like a boss

I like working, but I think a combination of working too hard and not taking the time to just relax hit me. Last week I went to three parties, swam a kilometer every weekday, went climbing for three hours on Sunday, worked all my shifts at the restaurant and then some. Even now when I’m supposed to relax I’m blogging, writing e-mails, looking at language exams and working on stories for some of my favourite publications. I love me some work, but I have to get more hobbies to do. I’ve already started some sketch work and it’s coming out pretty decent.

Marinated chicken with guacamole and a simple salad. To top it off I had elderberry water!
